Kijua, meaning little sun in Swahili, is inspired by the arc of the rising sun. The bag combines intricately hand-woven rattan, that highlights natural texture and artisan detail, with leather sourced from deadstock that would otherwise go to waste. The use of hand-woven rattan reflects the designer’s commitment to natural materials and traditional craft techniques.
Transform it into a crossbody or sling bag by attaching the adjustable leather strap, allowing you to customise your look to suit any occasion. Whether you prefer a hands-free approach or a stylish clutch, this bag has got you covered.
Designed by Lusweti, a talented emerging Kenyan designer, and made by skilled artisans working in East Africa's largest handicraft market, Kariokor Market, these bags give unused materials a second life while supporting skilled craftsmanship and sustainable livelihoods.
